The Mystery Project

Art ~ Magic ~ Mysticism

About

The Mystery Project is an ongoing investigation into the spirit(s) of mysticism – a direct communion with ultimate reality.

The project is spearheaded by writer and artist Amanda Yates Garcia, who is based in Los Angeles. Her work explores the potential for the imagination to act as an annulus between the material and metaphysical realms. Interested in both magic and art as means of transforming our perception of reality, she uses archaic and contemporary technologies to create shifts in how we experience space and our roles in the world. She thinks of magic as a worldview that implies a connection between all things, and ritual as a practical way of acting upon this understanding. Founder of the Los Angeles Mystery Project, her work has been featured at venues ranging from the Brewery Projects, REDCAT, Highways Performance Space, Public Fiction, Side Street Projects, and Human Resources among others. She has been published in a variety of publications in the United States and abroad including the literary journal Black Clock, and  Cinema Publication (Synema Publikationen, Austria). Short-listed for the Man Booker Prize affiliated London Writer’s Competition, and British Elle magazine’s Jaquie Moore award, she has received a Kodak film grant, as well as an Ahmanson Foundation Scholarship. Amanda achieved a dual MFA through the interschool program at California Institute of the Arts in Writing/Critical Studies and Film and Video in 2006.
